The Grocer

The Grocer was named for Herman Marwitz, a Galveston businessman who owned a successful ship chandler (providing supplies for ships and their crew) and grocer business for the Galveston area. Herman built “Marwitz Castle” for himself and his wife, which is no longer standing, and purchased the Carr Mansion property for his daughter & son-in-law (see The Newlyweds suite).

This bright, airy room has all the natural light magic. The original fireplace and beautiful golden seating area are perfect for lounging and sipping morning coffee. The queen-size bed is simple yet sophisticated, and the white clawfoot tub is located perfectly in a nook for soaking and relaxing. A side door reveals a private toilet and sink area off the bedroom. This suite has a clean, crisp vibe reminding guests to relax and enjoy all the island has to offer.
